Canada’s housing bubble deemed close to bursting

June 30, 2011

Canada’s housing market is in a bubble that’s set to burst and prices could plunge by as much as 25 per cent, a major independent research firm warns.

“Housing valuations have lost all touch with fundamentals and household debt is at a record high,” economists at the economic research consultancy Capital Economics say in their most recent Canada Economic Outlook, issued Wednesday.

“Our fear is that, with the housing bubble now close to bursting and commodity prices retreating, Canada will go from leader to laggard.”

The report predicts a fall in house prices by as much as 25 per cent over the next three years.

Subsidized Housing Tenants Live Large On Your Dime

June 30, 2011

FAIRFAX, Va. — Resort-style swimming pools with fountains and heated spas, billiards rooms, granite counter tops, ceramic tile, indoor basketball courts, stainless steel appliances — many Fairfax County taxpayers cannot afford such luxuries.  But they are paying for these amenities for use by low-income residents who live in subsidized housing in affluent neighborhoods.

North Korea shuts down universities for 10 months

June 29, 2011

North Korea has shut down its universities for the next 10 months and sent students to work in factories, agriculture and the construction sector as it struggles to rebuild its economy.

If only we could send them all the left wing pro-communist morons at our universities to help out.  Sounds like a great study abroad program!

Obama Approval at 44% (Gallup) 47% (Rasmussen)

June 29, 2011

Just noticed that Gallup now has a lower approval rating for Obama than Rasmussen does.  Normally, Gallup slants slightly left of Rasmussen results.  Below are the screencaps (top: Rassmussen, bottom: Gallup)

Smarmy Or Brave? Red Eye Panel Is Divided Over Jon Stewart’s Critique Of Fox News

June 29, 2011

with video.

Stewart may continue to laugh at Fox News’ “fair and balanced” slogan and believe it’s nothing more than deceptive marketing, yet as Fox anchors repeatedly give Stewart and others airtime to criticize their network and then continue to debate the merits of such claims, it demonstrates that if any “marching orders” come from the top (as suggested by Stewart), then one such directive is likely to constantly feature as many diverse opinions as possible.

Lone black bears pose deadlier risk: study

June 29, 2011

Hikers are often taught to be wary of the mother bear protecting her cubs, but new research shows that lone male black bears are more dangerous than their female counterparts.

Most of the fatal black bears attacks in North America in the last 110 years were the result of male bears targeting humans as food, according to an article published Wednesday in the Journal of Wildlife Management by University of Calgary professor Stephen Herrero.

They never do cite the lies they speak of

June 25, 2011

With notable exceptions such as Fox news, US conservative talk radio, the generally right-leaning blogosphere and one or two papers such as Canada’s National Post, the Wall Street Journal and the Daily Express (and increasingly, the Mail) there are few media outlets in the world which broadcast anything other than green propaganda. Far from being evil, the likes of Beck and Limbaugh are islands of truth in a (presumably doomed, increasingly acidified) ocean of lies. (I’d be interested if Matthews could produce some concrete examples of these “lies” that Limbaugh and Beck have told on climate change).

This is the thing.  They never will point out the lies.  It is against the liberal way to engage the facts point by point.  Easier to attack the character and trust your message will be parroted by the rest of the liberal media folks.  Thank God for Fox and Sun TV.

How it’s done. Brad Wall to SGEU.

June 25, 2011

Brad Wall once again sends a childish and selfish union back to work.  Not with force, but the assurance there of.

Our government has a duty to help those affected by this year’s flooding.  This includes ensuring that we live up to our obligation to provide Crop Insurance services and coverage at this time.  Therefore, if I do not receive your assurance that this strike will end within 24 hours, action will be taken to protect the interests of the province and of flood victims.

I look forward to your response.
